Table Of Contents:

Because neuropathy affects so many diabetics, there are plenty of tools on the market to help combat the pins and needles feeling. One of the most frequently recommended tools for helping to manage neuropathy symptoms is compression socks.

Neuropathy is the technical term for nerve damage most commonly caused by complications from diabetes. It's associated with weakness, numbness, and a feeling of pain commonly referred to as "pins and needles." While it usually affects the hands and feet, it can happen in any are of the body.

A progressive disease with no cure, neuropathy in diabetics is most frequently caused by high blood sugar levels over time. Because there's no cure, doctors often recommend a treatment plan designed to help relieve symptoms and prevent further damage. Diet and exercise to keep your blood sugar under control are often the first steps.

So, with that in mind, do compression socks really help with neuropathy?

Yes! Compression socks are a wonderful tool in helping manage the more uncomfortable and often painful symptoms of neuropathy. While the damage can't be reversed, compression socks can help promote the future health of your feet.

Compression socks provide an equal amount of pressure in various levels. This pressure is designed to support your feet and the vessels within them. Compression socks therefore work to keep your blood flowing in the right direction, which is essential for the overall health of your feet.

Patients with neuropathy often report that a well fitting compression sock helps relieve the pins and needles feeling. The socks also keep your feet protected from possible cuts or bruising. Those with extreme foot sensitivity will also appreciate the protection offered by a quality diabetic sock.

Compression socks can help with neuropathy!

While there is no cure for neuropathy, compression socks can help some patients find relief. It’s important to talk to your doctor to come up with a comprehensive plan to tackle your neuropathy symptoms. More than likely, your doctor will recommend that you wear compression socks around the house to help deal with swelling, pain, and discomfort associated with diabetic nerve damage.

Neuropathy is the technical term for nerve damage that causes weakness, numbness, and a feeling of pain commonly referred to as "pins and needles." It can affect all areas of the body but typically impacts the hands and feet most. This condition is most commonly caused by complications from diabetes, particularly uncontrolled diabetes. Chronic high blood sugar causes nerve damage, particularly to the extremities, and also weakens the walls of capillaries that supply those nerves with the oxygen and nutrients they need to function normally. Without these resources, nerves sustain damage that prevent them from sending and receiving nerve signals.

Due to the high proportion of diabetics affected by neuropathy, many tools have been developed to help combat its effects in this community especially. Because neuropath is a progressive disease with no cure, doctors often recommend a treatment plan designed to help relieve symptoms and prevent further damage. One of the most frequently recommended tools for helping to manage neuropathy symptoms is compression socks.

What are compression socks?

Compression socks are carefully socks that fit snugly on the feet and legs. They are carefully designed to promote the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the feet and allow the foot muscles to relax. MAny compression socks feature graduated compression, which means that the pressure is greater at the bottom of the foot and lesser at the top. This helps encourage circulation by pushing blood flow back to the heart.

The compression can also help to reduce swelling and pain in the lower legs and feet, making these socks an attractive treatment option for those suffering from diabetic neuropathy, especially considering that they are a non-invasive and affordable option.

Do compression socks really help?

Yes! Compression socks are a wonderful tool in helping manage the more uncomfortable and often painful symptoms of neuropathy and can help promote the future health of your feet.  Patients with neuropathy often report that a well fitting compression sock helps relieve the pins and needles feeling. The socks also keep your feet protected from possible cuts or bruising with special padding. Small injuries like these can prove to be major hazards in those with limited feeling in their feet because they often go unnoticed and can turn into serious infections. However, on the other side of things, those with extreme foot sensitivity will also appreciate the protection offered by a quality diabetic sock.

The Diabetic Sock Club Compression Stockings

These diabetic compression stockings are one example of quality compression socks that can help people with diabetic foot problems such as nerve pain, neuropathy, and foot ulcers.

  • Made In The USA - These compression socks are ultra-soft and comfy, with moisture-wicking characteristics, and are made in the United States from premium grade fabrics. Diabetic patients' feet might develop blisters and a foul odor as a result of moisture, resulting in serious foot problems. The usage of over-the-calf compression socks on a regular basis helps to avoid blisters and reduces odor.
  • Great for Tired, Aching Feet and Legs - The secret behind the effectiveness of compression socks is its unique gradual compression design. When you wear the socks and place over your calf, it begins applying gradual compression on your lower limb. The pressure is more directed towards your ankles and feet, and as it moves upwards, the compression lessens. This mechanism promotes optimal blood supply to and from your lower limbs providing ultimate comfort and reducing joints or muscle pain and soreness.
  • Prevents Ankle and Foot Swelling - Diabetes patients frequently report fatigued and painful feet and legs, calf muscle spasms, and spider and varicose veins. All of these factors have an impact on one's quality of life and daily activities. Men's over-the-calf compression socks are specifically intended to provide relief to fatigued and hurting feet and legs, not only for diabetics but also for others.
  • Prevents Calf Muscle Cramps
  • Helps relieve signs and symptoms associated with varicose and spider veins

  • If anyone has diabetes and is wearing compression socks, they should always be of the open toed variety. I worked for a compression sock manufacturer for 11 years as a sales rep, so i know what I am talking about. Depending upon the severity of your individual situation, the compression strength of the socks should probably be either 20-30 or 30-40 compression. They also come in calf or thigh high versions, depending on how high the compression is needed. You should discuss with your neurologist the appropriate length and strength that you need.

number of socks and the color you want.
